Cherish the little things, layout with the Cottage Rose collection

This time, I am showing a Shabby Chic layout for Kaisercraft, with the Cottage Rose collection, using the EF241 Sketched Rose embossing folder.

I decided, I wanted the embossed print on the white background paper. This is a 12x12 paper, I will therefore not fit in my Big Shot. I decided to use a rolling pin with the embossing folder, to create the embossed print. The flowers for this layout, are handmade. You can find the tutorial for the roses in the tutorial Tuesday for 11th of April. The leafs are made with DD558, Large Decorative Rose Die.

Minialbum with Kaisercraft's Sea Breeze collection

This minialbum has been created from scratch to show some of the papers. The album has five pages, but there are lots of flips and tags in the album. I have tried to use all the papers in the collection to show the papers.

The album has been created from card board and CD603 Premium Black cardstock.

There are lots of flaps in the album, that open, and where there are hidden messages and tags.

There is a pocket under the flap, hiding small cards with quotes from the collection.

At the edge, I have used a decorative die - words - thinking of you DD333. To make the words stick to the end of the page, I have used some cardstock between the die and the paper, where I want it to stick to the page. This will prevent the die to cut through the cardstock at the bottom.

I have used quotes hidden inside different flaps throughout the album.

I really like the pattern on the waterfall (P2018) page. This pattern in the paper has been fussy cut to create decoration on the flip on the left page.

I have created a small door on the right page, that can be opened.

These pages also have flips.

Behind this flip, I have played a bit with the decorative love pop up die (DD331). The die has been used in two different ways to create the pop up effect in the background.

The last pages has a flip on the right, that holds a card with a quote. The cover page on the right can be opened sideways.

When you open the last flap, this reveals a miniature pop up plane.

I created the template for this plane a few years ago, and you can find the template in my blog.

Love more, worry less - layout

Sometimes, layout does not need to be complicated. This is one of those simpler layouts and it's created as a picture, you can have on your wall, with a quote. The photo was taken in just outside Alice springs a few years ago. The layout has been carefully layered and added the flowers and the diecut hearts. There are some metal embellishments and coloured polishing wool.

Pigs might fly - a mixed media project and a friendly challenge

"Pigs might fly" is a Bristish - American - Australian idome with the meaning "It is no chance of that happening". The Norwegian language is very much influenced by the English language, but this is one idome we don't use, and we don't have a good idome to replace it.

I had thought about doing an altered pig with wings ever since 2012, when Graphic 45 came out with "Olde Curiosity Shoppe Collection" with the flying pigs.  After the realese of this collection, I have seen several flying pigs online, so this must be something that has inspired a lot of artists like Miranda Edney and The gentleman crafter

Some time ago, I found some small plastic pigs in a small shop in an amusement park, Tusenfryd. The shop was closed, but I managed to get them to open the shop, to get hold of some pigs.

This pig has also been blogged for Hobbykunst, where you can find a lot of the paints I have used for the pig.

The pig was altered, and painted. This is how it ended up.

I started with a small plastic pig

and a set of wings from Prima - Relics & Artifacts - Rising Spirit II. The wings are quite different, so I started with using a knife and cutting of parts of the wing on the right side. The pig is plastic, so I created some holes in the back of the pig, so I could mount the wings.

Then I added the base. The base is a block of wood. I added a wooden stick to the block and to the pig, by drilling a hole in the base and the pig, and gluing everything together. As a mixed media glue, I have used Liquitex super heavy matte acrylic gel medium

I glued metal to the pig, and painted it black.

After this, I dry painted the pig with  different colours of Metamica paint from Stewart Gill.

Flowers are from Wild Orchid craft and Prima.

I also used gesso and inka gold

Friends solution to the "Pig Challenge"

I used one myself, and I have sent the others to some crafty friends, as a challenge (more of the links will be added as the pigs are published).

I am entering these challenges:

Choose happiness layout

Working with the specialty papers with a gloss pattern, is really fun. Adding mists, sprays or ink to them creates nice pattern on the background paper. This layout was created for Kaisercraft for my monthly post.

The photo was taken a few years ago, with sunset over Uluru. I have also used the embossing folder EF229 Postmarks on the paper under the photo.

The 1870s paper dress with the cottage rose collection

This dress was created for CHA - spring 2016. I have shown a tutorial for the roses in Kaisercraft's blogpost this month. I have also added the rose tutorial further down in this blogpost. The dress is created over a dress form, with an underskirt and a crinoline over the underskirt. The ruffles are fixed to the crinoline. The dress also has a bustle, which was typical for dresses in the periode from the 1870s to the 1890s.

The pattern for the dress was created over a weekend from copy paper, and the dress itself was created over one evening.

The ruffles and the bustle can be shown from the side and back of the dress.

The orchids have been created from CD101 Coconut Weave cardstock. The petals have been cut and coloured with ink from Kaisercraft's inkpads.

This dress has also traveled around the world. It was sent from Norway to Kaisercraft in Australia by post. Then, it was sent to California in the US to go to CHA. I picked the dress up from CHA, when it was over and brought it back with me to Norway in the hand luggage on the airplane.

The dress shown at CHA - spring 2016

The dress was shown at Kaisercraft's stand in Anaheim in California. I went to CHA this year, and was able to see the dress and bring it home with me.

The dress was shown together with other OTP items with the Cottage Rose collection.
