At the bottom of the sea

Some time ago, I got a small suitcase to work with for Hobbykunst. There are two suitcases in the set, and I used the largest one for this project. My task was to create something in 3D inside the suitcase, and I also wanted to do something in Mixed media.

The result was a suitcase from "the bottom of the sea".

Inside the suitcase, I added a small octopus.

The octopus has been created with air drying clay. Inside the head, I used a small acrylic ornamentGlass eyes can be bought from Hobbykunst. The octopus was painted in blue, lilac, green and yellow.

The hair on the octopus had been created with thin thread. The motive in the lid of the suitcase and the turtes arefrom Graphic 45's collection - Sun Kissed.

The suitcase has been decorated with lace, wooden figures, beads, buttons and jewelery, before it has been painted brown.

Then the suitcase has been dry painted for effect with rust paint and mose paint

Then I added shells. Some of them I have found on the beach, and some was from the set Maritim decor. I also added a small bottle with a piece of paper as a bottle post.

Enjoy :)

Nevelfjell - A Prima layout with stones and map lichen

This is a simple mixed media layout I created for the magazine The Papercrafting a while back. It's no secret that Prima has been one of my favourite brands for a lot of years.  Therefore, I also have a lot of Prima stuff and old collections in my craft studio. This layout was created as an article to inspire to use some of your old craft stuff that you might have in your craft room.

The papers are Prima's Salvage District colletions - Chateau and Forever Green collection - Watch them grow and  Nature's Bounty. To create the stones with moss, I used Prima paper and painted it with Rayher kreativ concreate paste and FolkArt moss paste. To create the grass, I used car polishing yarn and coloured it with different green alcohol inks. I painted the sky with with a mixture og white gesso and blue paint with a spunge.

All the items have been mounted with 3D tape in layers, to create dimensions in the layers.

Good luck with finding old scrapping collections in your craft rooms.

A vintage frame

Hobbykunst has got some fantastic sweet MDF frames in different sizes. Here, I have used the  14,5cm x 14,5cm frame.

The frame has been simply decorated. First, it has been painted with a mixture of white and brown acrylic paint. When the paint has dries, it has been painted with white acrylic paint. When the white paint had dried, it has been lightly sanded, to create a more distresses look.

The picture inside the frame, has been simply decorated with paper from Kaisercraft. I have also used some old collectables from Kaisercraft as text around the photo. The flowers are Hobbykunst's Mathia flowers,

The frame has it's own support at the back. You have also got the possibility to hang the frame on the wall if you like.

Concrete, rust and moss paste.

Hobbykunst has got new concrete paste in the shop. It fantastic to work with, together with the moss and rust paints from Folk Art. Here, I have tested a combination of all these products.

The frame is from a flee market. It was old and the paint peeled off it. I liked the pattern on it, and painted it with the concrete paste. I used the sponges that came with the paste, to paint the frame. Rince the sponge under cold water after use, and you can reuse it.

The canvas used here, is 10x10cm. The canvas has been covered with the concrete paste. I have used the moss paint different places around the canvas for effect. The moss paint has been added with sponge.

The heart has been cut out from black cardboard. It has been painted with rust paint. First the dark brown paste, and then the light paste here and there. The paint has been added with a sponge.

Materials used:

El Greco: Artist Canvas - Lerret 10x10cm Liquitex: Super Heavy Matte Kreativ Betong Paste FolkArt Faux Paint Kit - Moss

Working with rust and moss effects

Rust effects seems to be one of the "things" in "the mixed media world" this autumn. I have been testing out different rust effects over the past few years. For some reason, I like the effect (as long as it's not on my car).

On this little canvas, I tested Folk Art's rust effect set and moss effect set, from Hobbykunst. The sets have to sets of heavy structure paints, that you can add with a brush or as I would recommend - a sponge

On this small canvas, I have tried to mix the rough rust effect together with so the delicate colours of Maja design's Summertime collection.

The little heart is a little styrofoam heart, altered with embossed metal tape. The heart has then been painted. The clock in the background is made out of a foam sheet. I have also used some old screws and metal embellishments. The rust and moss paint works well on metal, foam and paper.
